Countless hours of hard work had been poured into the brochure and the final sign-off had come from the marketing manager herself. They were scrapped. 10,000 brochures, 5.7m pages and almost 70 trees were wasted.
Going to print is a big commitment. Not only do missed typos or mistakes risk embarrassment if they make it into the hands of customers and prospects, but fixing those mistakes can be costly and result in massive paper wastage.

Why is that important? One recent example is of an education institute leaving inaccurate text in its brochure and printing 10,000 copies. Easily done, such errors can make it past even the most diligent proof processes.
Such a mistake, although small, could have cast doubt on the institution’s general competency and have had profound consequences. As a result, it scrapped the 10,000 brochures and ordered 10,000 more. More than 20 trees were destroyed unnecessarily.
This isn’t as rare as you might think. Considering the vast amount of printed material in continuous circulation, coupled with human error, the potential wastage is huge.
We’ve seen some resourceful companies try and avoid waste by applying stickers over inaccuracies or creating a new insert with updated information. Although saving scrappage, it’s a time consuming endeavor that is better avoided altogether.
